We had to wait an hour for the tide to come in enough but eventually spent
all afternoon having some serious blasting fun in the estuary.
Proceeded to give masterclass in how not to setup rig/board in strongs
winds - board + sail both went walkabout! Eventually rigged 5.8 which was
more than enough for the conditions ... too much when the dark cloud
squalls came over. First experience of a cambered sail ... really enjoyed
the stability but the constant pull in the gybes felt v.different.
Strangely, I completed a few gybes dry on port tack(normally my weaker
side) ...but none coming back in on starboard ... always seemed to be
totally overpowered......many wipeouts/ungraceful dismounts!
Wind became even stronger, so eventually decided to give my 5m sail its
first outing. Typically wind died the moment I'd rigged it at which point
most people came off the water and started to pack up.
However 30mins later it really picked up again and I enjoyed some more
overpowered blasting, especially in the squalls. Cramp eventually set in
but by this time I'd had enough ..... despite crap gybes one of my best
ever sessions!
